United Wambo JV MIA & Water Management
Overview:
The project involved the construction of United Collieries mine water management networks to control both pit water and divert upstream catchment.
Scope of Works:
Including all civil, structural, mechanical, electrical & hydraulic works:
- 500,000 cu.m bulk earthworks
- Two new mine water dams
- Roads and pavements
- Concrete panel retaining wall structure
- Water storage tanks and pump stations
- Demolition of existing heavy vehicle wash bay
- Electrical switch rooms and switch boards
- Heavy vehicle and light vehicle wash bays

Highlights and Challenges:
- Design, implementation and maintenance of full erosion and sediment controls in sensitive areas (Wollombi Brook)
- Resequencing of works and implementing additional safety measures allowed the operational mining area to continue works
- Sourcing, monitoring and controlling 180,000 cubic meters of material to meet stringent quality requirements for dam wall construction
- Safely rock lining dam walls and clean water drains in difficult access conditions
