Bulga (BOP) Water Management System
Overview:
Glencore coal NSW(XCN) was expanding the existing Bulga Coal Mine in the Hunter Valley. Our contract involved construction of out of pit water control dams and associated clean and dirty water catch drains, tyre change facility and access roads.
Scope of Works:
- Construction of 10 water control dams on the edge of the mining boundary in an existing water course
- Approximately 1,000,000 cu.m of earthworks
- Construction of 25+km of clean and dirty water channels
- Gypsum stabilised clay dams
- Rock lined rock drains (50,000t imported rock)
- Various associated pipe works
Highlights and Challenges:
- Control of onsite water during dam construction
- Revised the design to significantly reduce the project cost to the client
- Working at the toe of live dumps with restricted footprints and interacting with operations
