
Ravensworth Access Road
Overview:
Construction of a new 2.4km road into Ravensworth Open Cut mine to allow for mine expansion.
Scope of Works:
- Construction of five temporary and permanent sediment dams including 11km of clean water and dirty water conveyance channels to enable road construction
- Topsoil strip and bulk earthworks for new road alignment
- 600m of road built with 40,000m3 of gypsum stabilised clay as a creek levee
- Pavement constructed with 20,000m3 of engineered fill and 35,000ton of select, subbase and basecourse materia
- Construction of new intersection
- Road sealing and asphalting
- 240m of pipe culverts
- 2.5km of optic fibre including consisting of underbores
- Hydromulching, guardrail, linemarking and street furniture
Highlights and Challenges:
- Tight program to meet mine expansion schedule
- Managed to complete the project a week ahead of schedule despite an overall total of six and half weeks of wet weather
- A temporary road was constructed to divert existing traffic in and out of the mine to minimise disturbance while constructing tie ins for the new road
