Kyle Street Intersection Upgrade

Overview:

Part of the adjacent Anambah Business Park development, this intersection upgrade provides additional connectivity of the Business Park to the New England Highway and adjacent Rutherford Industrial Area.

Scope of work:

• New dual lane roundabout, pavement widening and construction over a 600m length
• Extensive heavily bound and deep lift asphalt pavements
• Over 3,000t of asphalt correction to establish new profile
• New drainage, cycleways and pathways
• Relocation of utilities including trunk watermains, high pressure gas and overhead electrical infrastructure

Highlights and challenges:

• Constructed through 8 phases to maintain safe traffic conditions to one of NSW’s busiest roads
• Major route for access to Hunter Valley Coal Mines including a high volume of wide and oversize and overmass loads through the site daily
• Minimising impact on adjacent business including providing and advocating appropriate access to maintain trade
• The works were completed in a challenging environment, within program, under budget and without major incident or interruption to the road or services networks
